SOAPSTone:
Subject:Rape case of a football player Occasion:Football player from Baylor football team , Sam Ukwuachu, raped a women and now is being tried for it. Audience: Rape victims,Football Players, town of Waco Texas, Baylor Football team Purpose:Is to give an opinion of how Sam shouldn't be convicted but the coach should be for allowing a man who was already charged once before on the same case on his football team. Speaker: Joe Nocera Tone:Accusatory Logos-"vaginal injuries, including redness,bleeding.."-this supports the purpose because it gives the audience facts on how the victim was left after she had been raped. It also relates to pathos because the audience begins to feel sorry for the rape victim as the author describes the outcomes of her abuse. Ethos-"The day of Ukwuachu's sentencing Baylor's president.."-this relates to the authors claim of Sam not being the animal but the coach because the coach had more credibility than the football player because he is the person who signed Sam Ukwuachu. This use of ethos makes the audience want to listen to all of accusations on the entire case because he is quoting from the man who gave Sam another oppportunity to make the same mistake twice. Logos-"He also said Baylor would hire..."this relates to the purpose because it is a fact as to how the coach would have a person to monitor Sam's behavior. This supports the claim of how the coach should be the one who is convicted because he is proposing bizarre solutions(logic)in order to keep Sam in control. Logos-"As for the idea that someone has to be hired to monitor.." relates to the claim of the article because it gives more exigency as to how Starr the coach is when he begins to speak on the solutions of Sam's behavior. It is the warrant to elaborate on the fact that the coach should be monitored instead of the football players. |
